I am repeatedly surprised by my lack of trust in our Lord. There are many seasons in life where I have seen Him faithfully come through. I have learned much about God, His Word, and who He is. You would think that I would be the foremost to trust God in every season simply because of the experiences He has brought me through and the knowledge He has given me.
Time and time again, I fail. I do not trust Him. I trust my own abilities. I trust my own control of the situation. I trust how popular, powerful, or comfortable I feel. Honestly, there are probably times when I have more trust in the random answer Google gave me for my question than in the God who rules over Google.
So, let’s keep things simple…because I can be dense and stubborn. I often need to learn the same lessons again and again…and again before they really begin to cement into my soul. If you find yourself in a similar pattern of life, I encourage you to join me in praying this Psalm and trusting God will do the work to train our hearts to rest in Him.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.
Psalm 37:3-5
Pray God will help you to trust in Him. Pray He would grow your delight in Him (especially over the things of this world). Pray He will help you give everything over to Him. Pray for His will to be done in your life.
23 The steps of a man are established by the LORD when he delights in his way; 24 though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the LORD upholds his hand.
Psalm 37:23-24
God’s got this! When we delight in the things of God, in His perfect will, we can trust He has established our steps. Even when we fall, are hurt, confused, and even more…God is holding our hand. He is a kind Father, looking down with love. He is not impatient with our weakness but rather wishes we would rest in His strength instead of trying to proudly be strong on our own.
So, what will you do? Will you turn to the Lord and seek His face? Will you trust Him in your situation? I am committed to growing in my humble dependence and trust in the Lord this year. I pray you will join me on this journey!
May God bless your week as you seek His kingdom first!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Dan
